Kidsgrove: How this site got here ... 1997 to now
|
In 1997, an idea for this site was born. It was uploaded onto AOL memberspace.
As broadband was unheard of, uploads were slow, and file sizes were very small. So a basic site would stay in place until technology progressed and gave us what we have today. Here's the journey over the last 9 years ....
The Internet Archive can give us a glimpse of how the site used to look in its earlier days.
Up until 10th February 1999, this site looked like this. Click this link to see the first page of the site in 1997. It's come a long way since then .....
Back on 10th February 1999, this site was different. There was little more content, but there were more visitors. Click this link to see the first page of the site in 1999. It's come a long way since then too ....
By April 19th, 2000 when it moved to a free web server. The site had outgrown the bandwidth of the AOL member space, and so moved on. More pages were added, and the visitors kept on rolling in. The changes and developments kept on happening ...... to see the first page of the site in April 2000.
Again, we move forward into the 21st Century ... The site kept growing on Free web space, and updates to the pages continued ..... however, another move was in store.
The site was being run over bandwidth (so many visitors!) so something had to be done ..... Here's how the site looked at that time to see the first page of the site in February 2002.
In May 2003, the site was moved to its own domain and the Geocities and AOL webspace were abandoned as unable to cope with the capacity required. The www.kidsgrove.info domain was acquired, and the site was reborn! click here to see the first page of the site on its own domain in May 2003.

Kidsgrove: Drink Driving
|
The collection of drink drive figures for the ACPO 2005 festive season campaign saw a change from previous years in as much that the whole of December (1 to 31) has been counted. This change has reflected the full party period rather than those closer to Christmas and the New Year, therefore actual comparisons are not available on the previous collection dates.
The 2005 results do however show a rise of 1.5 per cent in the number of driver who proved positive this year when compared with the whole of December 2004. The total number of breath test carried out in December 2005 was 1858 of which 103 (5.5 per cent) proved positive.
The number of breath tests carried out at road collisions where there was an injury was 301 of which 13 (4.3 per cent) were positive.
Traffic Management Officer, Les Dyble, said: “These stand alone figures show that there are still drivers on the roads who appear to have no concerns for themselves, their fellow road user or the law in respect of drink driving. Those caught in this campaign will now face court proceedings where the consequences of their actions will be thrust upon them.”
During the festive period a female driver involved in a minor damage only collision was found to be almost three times over the legal limit. Three other drivers in the county gave alcohol to blood reading in excess of 200 (the legal limit being 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood). These amounts are of particular concern as it proves that there are still a hard core of drivers who will take large quantities of alcohol and then drive.
On a more positive note, police records show that there has been a significant drop in fatal collisions in the year to 31 December 2005 against the previous 12 months. In 2004 there were 70 recorded collisions involving 77 deaths, the figure for 2005 is 57 collisions with 59 deaths. December 2005 saw one collision with one death whilst December 2004 saw seven collisions with 8 deaths.
